The Issue of Race is simply a presentation of a "Stand."  This Stand is rooted in the sacrifices, commitments, and the accomplishments of the generations that precede me.  This Stand is rooted in my participation, learning, and contributions as an aspiring social scientist, teacher, helper, and citizen.  This Stand is rooted in the enormous foundation of social science research, models, and programs assembled by a special group of scientists who are making the greatest contribution to humankind and with whom it is an honor and privilege to work.

The Issue of Race is for African Americans who are looking for a direction with relation to the issue of race.  This book presents a direction.

Growing up in Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Banks has been significantly influenced by the New England history of protest that has encompassed, among other things, America's fight for freedom as well as movements for the abolition of slavery and equal rights for African Americans. 

These values have both provided the purpose for and have been fulfilled through the author's education and career work. George Banks lives in Herndon, Virginia.
